Private Aviation: Le Bourget vs. Luton | Which Hub for European Travel?
Le Bourget is Europe's busiest private aviation airport by volume. Luton handles roughly half. But raw volume is not the metric: service standards, immigration handling, weather reliability and ground transport make the real difference.
Le Bourget
Eight FBOs operating, including Signature, Universal Aviation, Advanced Air Support. Sixteen kilometres from central Paris, twenty minutes by chauffeur outside rush, forty inside. Customs are responsive, immigration takes pre-clearance well. Weather diversion rate: 3% annual.
Luton
Fewer FBOs, but Signature Luton is one of the best in Europe. Forty-three kilometres from central London, fifty minutes by chauffeur, twelve by helicopter to Battersea. Immigration is faster than Heathrow but slower than Le Bourget. Weather diversion rate: 6% annual.
The verdict
For Paris-bound: Le Bourget every time. For London-bound: Luton if you accept the helicopter add-on; otherwise consider Farnborough or Biggin Hill. For multi-leg European tours, use both as anchor points.
